The Everett and Malden sections of the trail were opened in summer 2012 and paved in August 2013. Iron Horse Preservation completed the surfacing of the Saugus section of the trail with gravel. The Revere portion of the trail opened to the public with a gravel surface in Summer 2015. The final segment of the trail through Lynn will be built in 2020-2022. 2/7/2020 update: $13.7 million construction contract has been awarded to R. Zoppo Corporation to finish the entire trail, including Lynn. Construction will commence in spring 2020. 7/22/2020 update: The Everett Conservation Commission approved the Notice of Intent (NOI) to begin work on the final connection of the Northern Strand Bike Path in Everett – a missing piece that will allow one to go from the Malden City Line to the Encore casino and the Mystic River. It is colored red on the map.
