The rail trial would turn an abandoned railroad into a public recreational path stretching two miles from the Swampscott commuter rail station to Marblehead. The sections completed are in green . The trail will be 10 feet wide.
11/30/2020: Phase-2 construction started on the section from Beach Bluff Avenue, southward to Bradlee Avenue.
6/15/2020: Construction started on the 1/2 mile section from Beach Bluff Ave, northward to the Marblehead town line.
6/28/2019: The Town of Swampscott received $100,000 to begin construction of the Swampscott Rail Trail. This funding from the state's MassTrails grant program will help construct Segment 1 of the Rail Trail between the Swampscott Middle School and Humphrey Street.
6/29/2017: Funding for the proposed Swampscott Rail Trail narrowly passed in a special town-wide vote.
